Author:

Matt Posey has been telling stories his whole life through speeches, short stories, videos, silly songs, and even some bad comedy. A Haunt for Owls is his first novel.
Matt lives in northern Utah with his incredible wife and two awesome kids. His passion for redemption is a theme he carefully weaves into his storytelling, his hobby of restoration carpentry, and his volunteer work for his church and with Celebrate Recovery--much in the same way God has woven redemption throughout Matt's life.
Matt writes with the goal of telling amazing stories that also challenge his readers to discover who God really is.
From the Author:
Origin of A Haunt for Owls:
A Haunt for Owls is about as close to an “accidental novel” as you can get. The story originated with a friend’s idea for a screenplay. I didn’t know the first thing about writing screenplays, but I asked him if I could turn the idea into a short story. As I wrote, I unintentionally injected the characters with my own flaws and insecurities and soon had a forty-page tragedy on my hands. This was the origin of Part I of A Haunt for Owls.
I didn’t like the way the story ended. If I based the characters on myself, what did that say about me? It was depressing. My wife and mentors encouraged me to continue writing until I found redemption in the story I had begun. Three months later, I completed the manuscript for what would become A Haunt for Owls. And I felt a lot better. Writing as therapy? Who knew?
Now how incredible would it be if someday, someone told this story on the screen? It seems unlikely, but is it any less likely than a conversation between friends becoming a short story, then a novel, and now a crowd-funded, published book? I mean!
Other works:
Since completing A Haunt for Owls, I have written two other novels that I hope to publish someday:
Larry and the Bees:
How would you live if you felt the universe was aligned against you? Larry and the Bees is a story about a guy who, throughout his life, seems to attract nothing but hostility. People dislike him without reason, dogs bark at him, and wasps, bees, and other stinging insects constantly attack him. When a swarm of bees sends Larry to the hospital, he meets a man who gives him the opportunity to gain a different perspective. Is the universe really against Larry or is it just his perception? Will he ever find the strength to rise above adversity?
Almost everything that happens to Larry is a (slightly) exaggerated version of something that happened in my own life. In fact, most of Larry’s experiences are probably not so different from yours. This story highlights my personal journey in learning the importance of perspective, empathy, and personal responsibility and was instrumental in bringing an end to my irrational fear of bees.
I Can Read With My Eyes Shut:
What would you do if you were endowed with an unexplainable ability? I Can Read With My Eyes Shut follows Sam, a high-schooler, who suddenly gains the ability to “see” what his eyes cannot. Sam quickly decides to use his gift to “make it big.” Will he succeed in his pursuit of riches and glory or will his efforts lead him to total destruction?
I’m a creative guy—that’s just the way I was made. But I feel like whenever I make something new or have a great idea, I’m forever trying to figure out how I can turn it into “the next big thing.” It’s never worked! This story represents my reluctant acceptance that God just wants me to create for the joy of creating; to accept his gift, and let him decide what to do with it. Will I ever publish this novel? Hopefully. Will it become a best seller? Doesn’t matter. Just creating it has been reward enough!
